Pet Peeve: Over charging

So, I have a problem that annoys me. . . when I go to the store and the shelf price is clearly marked with a price, but when I get to the check out, the cashier rings it through and the price comes up MORE than what the shelf price is!  It truly annoys the tar outta me!  I mean, if it rings up lower, I’m fine and dandy with that, but if you have something marked for a buck fifty, darn it, it had best not ring up a buck ninety-nine!

Case in point — I took Rahat and Thomas with me to Ultra the other day to pick up a few things before the Big Blizz decided to roars it’s ugly head into our area.  They had a generic form of PopTarts on sale for 99 cents a box.  There was a big ‘ol black and white 8.5″ x 11″ sign above the entire section stating the price!  When I get to the check out they suckers ring up at $1.39!  Now, some would say I was being petty, but when I am working with a budget and normally don’t buy things like PopTarts unless they are on a sale,  yeah, I’m gonna make a stink.

So, I finished my check out (wasn’t going to hold up the line any, as Ultra is always so damn busy!) and took my receipt to the customer service desk.  I explained that the pastries were to be 99 cents.  Yeah, yeah, 40 cents, big deal. So, she called for a price check.  Lady comes up and states they are $1.39.  I looked at her and calmly told her “Ma’am, there is a sign over in the entry that clearly states they are 99 cents a box.”  Seriously, yeah, only 40 cents, but that  40 cents add up ya know!  She comes back and verifies they should have been 99 cents.  Cha-ching!  An additional 40 cents we can add towards the TV!

My dad experienced the same thing at Meijer this past weekend.  I dunno if he said anything, but I am hoping he did.  Supermarkets and the big boxes make a gazillion bucks off of suckers that don’t say anything!  I am very anal and watch the readout while checking out.  I’ll be darned if they are gonna sucker money outta this cheapskate! I admit, there have been times when I will argue with the cashier, but I am almost always right.  When wrong, I admit it as well.

So, what is your opinion on something like this?  Do you ever get over charged?  If so, do you say anything or do you just let it ride?

Hello world!

Well, Blogger did not allow for me to add photos and fancy it up, so I’m trying this site for now. . . we’ll see how it works 🙂
